2020 | Praxis Art

Here I describe some of the why, how and what of www.creatingafuturewewant.com. To start, I’m a homeschool dad, recovering federal bureacrat, scientist and lover of a waterside existence - surf, fish, paddle, play, splash and gaze.

“Do it to it!” In my writings I sometimes include quotes at least as impactful as this… if that is even possible.

As for the discussion of each praxis I introduce, I’ve written tomes. Though I admit I may not be the best judge, I don’t feel much of it is fit to publish. So, to avoid locking myself away for years of revisions (not an option with 2 little girls), I’m most often sharing short video messages to introduce and explore each deep praxis.

Deep Praxis

A Deep Praxis is a process of enacting or embodying an idea, theory or concept amidst and in consideration of the living entangled nexus of phenomena related to the process.

Deep Praxis is like deep ecology in that attention is given first not to isolated parts but instead to the massively tangled interdependent whole.

Some good stuff to have on hand for any deep praxis include creativity, vision, openness, an action orientation, an eye and mind for desired transformation, humility, and much besides. Helpful ways of thinking include: critical, creative, design, evaluative, synthetic and analytic.

“Phenomena” related to a deep praxis include networks of life, human values, actions, structures, processes, patterns of organization, outcomes, learning, and visions of futures we want.
